Emilio’s First Pride
Emilio lives in a beautiful City by the Water.
And he always knew he was different.
Rather than run around and play sports like the other boys in his class, Emilio prefers to read books and write stories.
Emilio LOVES animals.
His best friend is a little brown cat named Pequeñito.
One day Emilio's dad tells him and his brothers that he has a surprise for them!
They all hop in the car and drive to the other side of San Francisco.
As they drive past City Hall (where the Mayor's office is) Emilio takes a peek out of the window and that's when he notices all the people lined up.
It turns out these are the first same-sex couples to be married in the United States.
And although he quickly became distracted by what was waiting at their destination, it was a moment Emilio never forgot.
Emilio's First Pride features iconic scenes from all over San Francisco, like the Golden Gate Bridge, Dolores Park, The Painted Ladies at Alamo Square, and more!
Emilia was Emilio’s Abuelita’s middle name.
The ending of the book includes a Glossary with some common LGBTQ prefixes and terms.

Dedication
Emilio's First Pride is dedicated to the memory of Ivory Nicole Smith, who passed away unexpectedly at only 27 years old.
Ivory was a Program Associate at the Transgender District and a member of the Trans Advisory Committee with San Francisco's Office of Transgender Initiatives.
She was a fellow San Francisco native and will be dearly missed. My Ultimate Castro LGBTQ+ Tour is also dedicated to Ivory's memory.
